Misssion Impossible 3
Exciting explosions, stupendous stunts and horrifying high jinx – okay, so that describes Tom Cruise’s actions on Oprah, but how does Mi3 compare to the previous two instalments?
From Brian de Palma’s original, to the intensely visual follow-up by John Woo, the franchise of Mission Impossible has grabbed our attention and drawn us to the edge of our seats on many occasions.
The latest episode continues to captivate the sense with clever stunts, disguises and gadgets that will impress the hardest to impress male. From free falling rope swings on to a high rise roof, through to creative plans involving disguises and the Vatican City, this movie delivers the action most men desire from their cinema visit.
Of course Mi3 adds a flavour that takes the film from mere action-pic into the realms of date-pic. Co-written by JJ Abrams (the guy behind “Lost” and “Alias”), Mi3 includes the role of a non-agent romantic co-star to Cruise. Played by Michelle Monaghan, Ethan Hunt’s fiancé has no idea that her husband-to-be is actually a top spy trainer. That’s right he’s just a trainer now. Hunt is looking to settle down and do the family thing. Sound a little too close to the real life of Cruise?
All that aside this movie delivers a nice blend of high action and simplistic relationships. It is by no means a deep romantic deluge of believably clever characters and twisting plotlines. But then if it was, it would cease to be Mission Impossible.
Over all, despite my general “had enough of Tom Cruise in the news”-ism, I really enjoyed this solid action movie. Still, I wouldn’t jump on the couch in excitement.
My Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
Director: JJ Abrams
Cast: Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Michelle Monaghan, Laurence Fishbourne & Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Rating: M – Medium Level Violence

Pretty much in agreement with Jon there… I was fearing that the ‘romantic sub-plot’ would be to the detriment of this adventure, but thankfully it wasn’t to be… kind of just added another source of tension for what Hunt had to do.

And Phillip Seymour Hoffman is a FANTASTIC bad guy… honestly, that was class.
My parents saw it before I did. I ended up going since a friend invited me, but otherwise i wouldn’t have seen it. I get a kick out of NOT seeing what all the marketing hype wants me to see. Plus well, Tom’s a cad man. I’m supporting that by seeing the film.. :(
