BBC Interviews the Wrong Dude
Thursday, May 18, 2006
[Video] In a hilarious mishap last week, some random was accidentally interviewed live in studio, as the real expert was left watching on a screen from the reception.
Guy Kewney is the editor of the technology website news wireless. On 8 May he was due for a live interview about Internet music downloading, relating to the whole Apple computers/Beatles label saga. However, there was a mix up involving the Studio Manager and the real Guy Kewney was left at the reception, as a friendly, slightly overweight, black bald man from the Congo, with a heavy French accent (everything Kewney is not) took his place.
The imposter Guy (yes, they had the same first name – part of the problem), was, contrary to popular opinion, a business studies graduate applying for a job. He obviously thought that all this was a kind of interview trick. There is a golden moment at the start of the piece where he realises that he is now live on air as a skinny white internet geek! Nonetheless, the charming imposter continued the interview with correspondent Karen Bowerman, giving his ill-informed and badly worded opinion.
Since the incident, the ”wrong Guy”, as he is affectionately termed, has become an international superstar, appearing for-real (yes, as himself) in other interviews to discuss his experiences. We all now eagerly await the news to whether he gets the job he applied for!
Hilarious! Watch a video of the original interview here. (http://img.dailymail.co.uk/video/cabbie.wmv)
