Australian tries to sell NZ on eBay
Thursday, May 18, 2006
It seems some are taking things one step further than the insurance TV ad’s. Recently a cheeky Australian tried to flick on our precious country to another owner.
The unnamed Australian attempted to sell NZ through the internet auction site eBay Australia. Starting the bidding at one cent, the apparent title-holder for the land of the long white cloud got a great response. Apparently there were 22 bids, taking prices up to $3,000 Australian, before eBay officials shut it down.
“Clearly New Zealand is not for sale,” eBay Australia spokesman Daniel Feiler said. Which, to be honest, we are all quite glad about. I’m not too keen on the eighth-state thing.
It also seems that the seller doesn’t particularly like New Zealand either, further making him an irresponsible owner. He mentioned in the real estate listing that New Zealand has “very ordinary weather”. Come on, it’s winter for goodness sake!
